QB Questions

  1. The Technical Assessment (ATec) mentions an existing CSTB certification for my product. How will this information be updated?

Specific communication for all the Technical Assessments will be posted on the search results page for Technical Assessments, announcing that the new QB mark is gradually replacing the existing CSTBat, CSTBat Service and Certifié CSTB Certified marks.

  2. Is there any effect on or connection with the NF mark?

Only the existing collective CSTB certification marks are affected: Certifié CSTB Certified, CSTBat, CSTBat Service and UPEC CSTB.

The NF mark, owned by AFNOR, is sometimes used in association with an existing CSTB mark. In these cases, only the existing CSTB mark will be converted into the QB mark and the association with the NF mark will remain unchanged.

  3. Is the ACERMI mark affected?

The ACERMI mark is not affected. It is managed by the ACERMI Association and will retain its prerogatives.

  4. When will holders be entitled to use the QB mark?

QB is the new CSTB collective certification mark. The general requirements became applicable on 1 October 2015. These requirements apply to the holders of an existing CSTB mark: Certifié CSTB Certified, CSTBat, CSTBat Service, and UPEC CSTB, as an amendment to their current certification contract(s). As soon as the contractual amendment is accepted and after 1 October 2015, affected holders are entitled to use the QB mark. This means that holders can state and/or promote the fact that their product is now QB certified.

A transition period, from 1 October 2015 to 31 December 2018, has been scheduled to ensure that everyone benefits from a rapid but smooth transition from the current CSTB certification mark to the QB mark. In the case of a technical obligation specific to a family of products, in particular with regards to product marking, an exemption may be extended beyond 31 December 2018.

  5. What happens during the transition period?

Initially, the content of the reference system for each application will be retained: certified characteristics and assessment methods.
During the transition period, all stakeholders will be able to take ownership of the QB mark, and in particular to develop its demand.

At this time, the marking conditions for products and for all the communication and sales materials can also be adapted. The restrictions associated with these two aspects are different. For each product family, with input from the relevant Specific Committee, the CSTB will specify the two relevant transition periods.
Then, depending on changes in the relevant technical field, the reference system will be developed to include or adapt any requirements based on the expectations of professionals.

  6. When will I receive my QB certificate?

Current certificates will remain valid and will still be published on the CSTB website. As soon as the Specific Committee, in association with the CSTB, has defined the transition periods and methods, the CSTB will amend the certification reference system accordingly and will start to issue new QB certificates.

The certificates will be updated no later than the end of the transition period indicated by the Specific Committee (no later than 31/12/2018).

A valid certificate appears in the list of currently valid certificates or in full-text version on the CSTB website, https://evaluation.cstb.fr/

  7. When will the marking on the product (or packaging) need to change?

With input from the relevant Specific Committee, the CSTB will define the new product marking conditions and the date when the corresponding transition period ends, which is to be no later than 31 December 2018. During the transition period, the holders will place on their products (or packages, etc.), either just the QB mark, or the existing CSTB mark, which they are entitled to use temporarily until the end of the transition period.

If it is not technically possible to place the QB logo on the products, the Specific Committee will define the special conditions for marking the products.

  8. When do communication or sales materials need to change?

With input from the relevant Specific Committee, the CSTB will define the transition conditions for permission to use the QB mark on communication or sales materials and the date when the corresponding transition period ends, which is to be no later than 31 December 2018.

During the transition period, holders may place on their communication or sales materials, either just the QB mark, or the existing CSTB mark which they are entitled to use temporarily until the end of the transition period, or the QB mark associated with the existing CSTB mark which they are entitled to use temporarily until the end of the transition period. Holders should consult the QB mark graphic charter for reproduction conditions.

  9. What impact will the QB mark have on the cost of certification?

The technical requirements relating to assessment and certification will be retained. Thus the price lists and the related price developments will remain in force without any additional cost generated by the QB mark.
